Lynette Smith has over 30 years of retail banking experience in the financial services industry. Her banking career began with Barnett Bank of South Florida, in the early 1980's. She relocated to the British Virgin Islands where she joined Scotiabank in 1988.
Over the years Mrs. Smith has held progressively senior roles with Scotiabank including Senior Operations Manger, Personal Banking Manager and Branch Manager of both the Road Town and Virgin Gorda branches. Areas of responsibility included Retail Credit (mortgages, credit cards, credit lines, personal loans) Small Business Banking, and Commercial and Offshore Deposit Accounts.
Mrs. Smith was instrumental in assisting Scotiabank with the training of staff during restructuring of the Bank in 2003. She also played lead roles in remediating client files to meet compliance and regulatory requirements and with the set up of the second branch in Virgin Gorda. Ms. Smith was a member of the Board of Directors for Scotiabank in the British Virgin Islands.
In 2014 to 2017, Mrs. Smith worked with the government owned bank (National Bank of the Virgin Islands) as the internal Auditor. Her vast experience in banking was drawn upon to assist with the implementation of an internal audit program to ensure that the bank met regulatory requirements.
She holds a Bachelors degree in Business Management from Kaplan University, USA.
